the point is, your reply saying that the french should just support israel out of undying love for america doesn't make much sense.

to do so is to fundamentally ignore a major resource problem which i've detailed earlier. given that the US itself had a much more neutral stance vis-a-vis israel until really the '73 war (by which time israeli/jewish-american groups had organized far better politically), you're saying that the french should shape their own foreign policy around US policy which itself was influenced by domestic factors.

and how realistic is that in the realm of international affairs? arab oil has france and europe as a whole by the balls; an oil crisis like the 70s would damage the american economy, but get close to completely devastating europe! there's a differential.
