That gentleman is "GLORY" everlasting, undeniable, unforgetable, unmistakable "Glory", the kind that most men dream to be a part of and cherish as will your children and grandchildren for generations to come but most of all an undeniable sign of an awesome scientific achievment born from the challenge of visionary american president JFK. Our flag has flown on the moon since July1969 and if we were to give up going back those brave astronauts from the early Apollo1 (1967) flights to the Challenger disaster (1986) that have died trying to reach for the stars would have died in vane. No way, we need to keep reaching even further for the stars! The spectre of disaster and money woes can never kill the dreams of a great and pioneering nation! Never! And besides would you choose to deny every single American born and yet to be born the one and only place not on this planet that OLD GLORY never ever flies at half staff? Never yeilding Never wavering and Always Proud. I would think you would not deny them this
Sorry guys just my thoughts.

P.S. The country among others feared the Soviets when they put Yuri GiGarin on a rocket and into orbit around the earth for the first time (1966).

But...The Entire world was dumbfounded and stood in awe when Eagle 1 transmitted from Tranquility Base for the very first time from the surface of the moon (1969). So you tell me if we have what it takes to explore space.
Let me correct you here. Yuri Gagarin was first in the space in 1961.... and 8 years later in 1969 there was a first manned moon landing. Both are really great achievements of the time.

Shutles. Great achievement of the tiem. Great load capabilities. Hubble kept on orbit turning around the views on how universe is fuctioning. However no point to keep them.

In other thread there was plenty of information about newer spacecrafts which might be made by 2011 from components designed for Shuttle program.... but keeping Shuttle as it is - too risky and deadly. And probably not economically sound - it costs around billion of dollars to launch a Shuttle - the vehicle was simply not designed for frequent flights and 20 years of use.

On subs issue. Recently I read some materials about Alfa sub - project 705. I was amazed to learn about a liquid metal reactors. Liquid metal reactors have size/weight 10 times less than a water reactor of same capacity would require!!!

Moreover such reactors may see their power getting up increadibly fast. I later talked with few experts in nuclear technolgies... they both agreed that Liquid metal technology is a future of portable nuclear reactors just like supercavitating torpedoes leave no chance for old ones.
