Iran has signed the nuclear non-proliferation treaty stating that they won't pursue nuclear weapons. Pursuing a nuclear weapon means that they aren't abiding by the obligations and commitments that they have agreed to be a party to. This isn't about the US dictating who can and can't be a nuclear weapons power, but rather about Iran upholding its international commitments.
