Gunpowder and nukes are good choices, but here are some lesser heroes:
Horse-mounted archer: dominant weapon system until the gunpowder firearm.
Bayonet: Ended the dominance of cavalry over musket infantry.
Machinegun: dominated the infantry battlefield.
Tank: Ended the dominance of linear infantry formations and machineguns. Mobile warfare.
RPG (bazooka, panzerfaust): Ended the ability of tanks to overrun infantry.
Submarine: Has sunk more ship tonnage than any other type.
Aircraft: dominates the rest.
Droptank: Allowed Allied fighters to range over Germany, resulting in the destruction of the Luftwaffe.
