Don't forget the old zepplins Los Angeles, Akron and Macon. They carried up to 5 scout planes each in an internal hangar recovered via a trapese device. Later U.S. zepplin designs used Helium to replace the more volitile Hydrogen making them slightly safer.

I doubt that Zepplins could be designed to recover modern jet fighters however...
